Our wall of lights surrounding the Bill Murray portrait in the dining room, which we call our “captain’s parlor,” because you won’t see that in any other home. There’s no way to hang a ceiling fixture in that room because of the plaster and the trim work, so lighting was an issue. I already had the artwork, and then one night we went to Yvonne’s in Downtown Crossing for dinner, and they had a portrait surrounded by a series of sconces on one wall.
We’ll visit the cheese factory, which was the favorite tour of the 2006 rally in Salem. And yes, you can take home all the cheese you want plus taste samples. We’ll have lunch in Netarts, OR, right on Netarts Bay at the Schooner Restaurant.

The Salem Oak, where Fenwick is said to have met with the local Lenni Lenape, and the Fenwick Monument, which commemorates Fenwick's burial, will also be on the tour. When you take a look at the kitchen, you will be able to notice that the light fixtures that we use create a warm ambiance in contrast to white custom cabinets, white stone countertops, with waterfall countertop island. The pantry in this kitchen is very unique as it became part of the custom cabinet layout. Rather than adding a regular door to the pantry opening, we concealed the it with cabinet doors and added floating butcher block and natural wood shelves. Then up across the mountain, with a stop at historic Timberline Lodge for some libations and a look around before heading back to Salem. Federal and Victorian houses will also be featured, including the Samuel Clement House (built 1790s & 1820), the Goodwin Sisters House , and the Thomas Davis House . The Goodwin Sisters House is recognized as a confirmed Underground Railroad Station; it was the home of Quaker abolitionist sisters Abigail Goodwin and Elizabeth Goodwin.
We’ll have lunch at this historic lodge that firefighters worked so hard to save from the devastating fires in 2017. After lunch, we’ll head up to Hood River, a lovely town right on the Columbia where we can take a moment to watch the windsurfers who swarm the Columbia River with their brightly colored kites. There will be time to look around Hood River and do a little wine tasting.

The Tour of Homes benefits Springfield Preservation & Revitalization , the 501c3 grassroots organization dedicated to preserving the historic character, facilitating investment, and building community in the Springfield Historic District. The Tour of Homes has showcased the unique character of the community for 39 years, and is a major fundraiser for programming and services provided by SPAR Council.
